Its Saturday, so let's start with a look at Pravda, and this analysis of a recent U.S. Senate resolution asking the President to ask the UN or NATO for help with Iraq. Pravda's take on this (naturally) underreported event here is that, well, things are not going well over in Baghdad, the US of A knows it, and notwithstanding the extreme arrogance going into Iraq in the first place, some level of assistance will have to be requested-- and the rest of the world will probably have to chip in.

This comes as Proconsul Bremer announces plans (without a date!) for an interim Iraqi governing council, and of course, the President decides to declare victory in the African uranium claim fiasco (for which Tenet took the blame) and, according to the hilarious Ari Fleischer, Bush "considers the issue closed".

Ummmm.... no. You see, Mr. President, even if we give you every benefit of the doubt that you were NOT deliberately lying, or, more accurately, using provocative sounding information your handlers KNEW to be untrustworthy but couching it in the appropriate qualifier ("British intelligence says... touch your nose! Now touch your nose... I didn't say British intelligence says!!!) to make it SOUND trustworthy, this happened on your watch. That means, ahem, YOU, as in George Walker Bush, 43rd President of the United States, are responsible-- if not for intentional malfeasance, then for negligent malfeasance. If you seek to blame this on your subordinates, we note that they are your subordinates serving at your pleasure. You will not escape this by simply saying "I said case closed". You are the accused, Sir, and the accused does not also get to be the judge and jury, Sir. Even though you purport to do things "at a time and place of my chosing", you are an elected official of a democracy (even if you more than anyone laugh at the notion that you were "elected").

The buck stops here. You got us into deep shit in Iraq, pushing lots of buttons to get us there. If you did so out of the good faith execution of your duties, then, good for you, Sir. If you did so for any other reasons-- ANY other reasons-- then you WILL be held accountable. Sir.
