Anyway, from Off the Kuff, we have a blogburst as to suggestions about what Texas Democrats should do next. Personally, I think registering every human being in the State of Texas otherwise eligible to vote to vote is the way to go; most people, if they are, in fact, human beings, tend to prefer the Democratic platform to that of Tom the Exterminator-- and I would bet that's true in Texas.
Maybe that's just me. To me, the problems of Texas are not dissimilar to problems of, say, Nigeria, Venezuela, Indonesia or the Middle East: oil is a highly corrupting industry (as are many extractive industry), as it concentrates inconceivable amounts of wealth in the hands of a few; when those few have lost any and all sense of "noblesse oblige" and want nothing other than to consolidate their power, well... see above, re: problems of Nigeria, Venezuela, etc. Hence, an immensely wealthy state with, for example, a fabulous public university, has a rather, well, generally less than fabulous education system otherwise.
Ultimately, I suspect whatever gerrymandering results from the sell-out by that one Texas state senator (check him for trips to Switzerland over the next year or two, unless de Lay had members of his family kidnapped-- which I certainly don't put past this lot) will be challenged in the courts, so, there will be some paring back of the legislative outrages. But not enough; there was an intrinsic social contract between the parties-- and the current de Lay and Rove led lot only believes in one doctrine: winning at any cost. Well, I can't stomach that in a democracy based on compromise and rights of the minority, but that's just me!

I mentioned this the other day, but I think the political solution du jour is for everyone not already registered as a member of the Republican Party to register themselves immediately.
The Democrats, at least in Texas, are a moot point. So lets all go take over the Republican Party and throw out the fringe lunatics from the far "religious" "right."
No fooling, I really think this could work.
