January 21, 2004, No Lame-Ass Idea Left Behind...
Well, that's not exactly true, as the Washington Post's take on last night's State of the Union address reveals, while insisting on drug tests for professional athletes and presumably for high school students (he himself would have been exempted: Phillips Andover, you know) and a brilliantly worded raising of anti-gay bigotry..., er the sanctity of marriage, he didn't mention the "Axis of Evil", and he didn't mention the moon shot.
Part of why I like Howard Dean is that he could say (and did say) quite calmly, that while we will probably hear the President tout his accomplishments in his first three years in office; we won't hear him tell us about the $500 billion deficits every year, 500 American troops and thousands more wounded in a discretionary war in Iraq, the increase in the national debt by $ 8 trillion during his watch, the loss of 3 million jobs, 43 million Americans without health care...
Bush avoided mentioning OBL, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, or frankly, the casualties (they haven't happened you know; the only thing that has happened is that the Iraqi people have been liberated from Saddam Hussein, who as we know was Hitler, Stalin, and Bealzibub rolled into one, and we've painted a lot of schools); he was non-plussed by cheering from the Democrats present when he announced that the Patriot Act would expire soon.
My assessment? The speech was Clintonian, right down to the invocation of Bill Clinton himself and the signing of the (blatantly unconstitutional) "Defense of Marriage Act"; its blatantly unconstitutional, btw, because the Constitution has something called the "Full Faith and Credit Clause" (meaning an American state must accept, as law, the law or judicial decision of another state, as governing disputes or other matters arising from the laws of that state. Hence, if two men got married in, say, Massachusetts, and moved to, say, Texas, Texas, for purposes of, say, property inheritance, or government benefits, would have to recognize that marriage. ) But I digress. What a brilliant wedge issue. Btw, John Kerry has already started backpedaling--instead of defending one of his few courageous votes, against the Defense of Marriage Act, he instead says no, no, no, he too believes that marriage is a holy, sacred institution, which the state must uphold the sanctity of, etc.
Its moments like this that one wishes that Howard Dean had just won 100% of the Iowa caucus vote, like Bush did, immediately eliminating the other candidates, so that he could now say "Hey Mr. President, you like gay bashing, don't you? Way to pander to Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell, big guy! Say, Judy is too busy being a doctor (and a Jew and all)... but let me ask you-- how does Laura, what with her First Lady duties, still manage to keep your white sheets so White?"
Unfortunately, I see Democrats playing not to lose (again), which makes me angry. Why? This was not the confident, arrogant, George W. "so what if I stole the election because God put me here so I'm going to lead my way" Bush of the last two State of the Unions. This is the pussy son of George H.W> Bush, the "support a mile wide and inch deep" good-for-nothing ex-coke fiend ex-alcoholic loser who was handed the office, and can't even keep his bullshit issues straight (I mean, come on... no moon base?) This, boys and girls, is a man who is takeable. After New Hampshire, when Joe Lieberman finishes fifth and is duly eliminated, the four remaining candidates-- in alphabetical order Clark, Dean, Edwards, Kerry-- can all beat Bush.
Although if Kerry keeps backpedaling so damned much to be the kinder, gentler John Kerry who doesn't stand for any principle or anything else besides himself too much... then maybe not him (though if he gets the nomination, he gets my support anyway).
And now, on to New Hampshire. Its next Tuesday, January 27th... I'm planning on another blogburst ; send me your tired, your poor, your New Hampshire primary related posts. New Hampshire bloggers (or people who know New Hampshire bloggers) will be especially welcome for the occasion, and, there will be New Hampshire news round ups, pundit round ups, and our own, worth the paper its printed on commentary! Be here, aloha!!!
Update: In a piece reminiscent of those by-gone days back before 9-11-01, even the liberal Andrew Sullivan in this piece in TNR Online questions why the President's speech did not feature bold new policy initiatives-- or really, any new policy initiatives-- besides trying to take pot shots (which Sully liked) at the pussy, peace-loving Democrats (Sully didn't say much about that gay marriage thing, btw). Well, boys and girls, I give you the emmes, the gonse megillah, in short, word up: your talking dog and Andrew Sullivan concur that George W. Bush is takeable this year. Let's go kick his ass!!! (Bush's, that is, not Sullivan's...)
Comments
From Sullivan's piece, this:
Here's the best response yet to the lame Democratic demands that the war in Iraq be "internationalized"
Well now, are Americans so ill informed as to NOT wonder just exactly how much $$ and troops this huge international coalition contains?
One must ponder ... Gran

I am in a moral quandry.
My friend searches for http://detectives.any1in.us/foster.html foster on google to screen potential roommates.
He found any1in.us , but did not visit.
I, on the other hand, searched for http://detectives.any1in.us/adoption.html adoption and found any1in.us.
I went there and found that http://detectives.any1in.us/investigations.html investigations were easier to find than on google.
Should I tell him that his potential roommate is a http://detectives.any1in.us/foster.html foster ?

Excellent, let me know how it works. I'll add methods for retrieving the rest of your collection too (not just the currently reading and favorite books) as well, so that might be a better option than creating xml feeds for each of these things.
