This week's visit to Beijing's People's Daily gives us the PRC's insights into the current failures of the "Quartet's" "Road Map for Peace". The article asks "Who is to blame?", but answers the question "Ariel Sharon" (with his American collaborators). And they forgot to mention the Sabra and Shatila Massacres.

What's interesting of course, is that its not an incorrect answer. Its sort of a perverse question, however-- because no one who doesn't have their head completely up their ass believes that "peace" is even remotely possible while the cancer in human form Arafat continues to breathe. The best anyone can hope for is a reduction in violence-- an amelioration of hostilities-- any peace plan would be "transitional" until Arafat dies (preferably at the hands of his own countrymen, once and for all, under no circumstances at the hands of Israel).

Unfortunately, everytime the United States puts its heavy boot down in that part of the world, the American President always feels the need to play "peace maker". Obviously-- this is not possible (see above re: cancer in human form).

I would answer the question this way: Sharon is being extremely provocative, and is truly making matters far worse by trying to ensure that no post-Arafat Palestinian state is viable through the honeycombing if settlements throughout the West Bank. And George W. Bush has been a fucking disaster on this: while, privately, he can side with whomever he likes, as a matter of policy, it is in the interests of the United States, while being ISrael's best friend, to nonetheless be an "honest broker". And George W. Bush fucked that up with his Sharon love-fest.

Good to see the PRC still siding with "revolutionaries" (read "criminals") like Arafat. Unfortunately, a good part of their analysis happens to be correct...
