June 2, 2004, Is There No Code Among Convicted Embezzlers?

Someone really cynical might question if the Bush Administration might make getting to the bottom of today's revelations as seriously as it takes those pertaining to the outing of clandestine CIA operative Valerie Plame. Today's revelations are that someone high in that Bush Administration leaked unbelievably sensitive information to good old convicted embezzler, INC Chairman and former IGC member and American darling Ahmed Chalabi, who then leaked it to our old buddies in Iran. Oh alright-- I suppose it wasn't THAT sensitive-- merely that American intelligence had broken Iranian intelligence's transmission code. I mean why should WE care? I think it was digby who quipped "hey, who could have thought the Americans would figure out how to read Farsi backwards?".

Still, as the President lauds himself and anoints himself Roosevelt and Churchill rolled into one (though Stalin seems a bit more apt... or possibly Mussolini or Chiang Kai-Shek... or perhaps, Abbott and Costello-- they were ALSO big in that war, IIRC) trying to liken the current American military fiasco with World War II. Bush deleted Ike's use of the word "crusade"-- its so Les Miz you know-- though Bush DID fail to point out how wonderfully WWII would have gone had Ike and Wild Bill Donovan and Roosevelt and the rest all decided to do business with someone who told the Germans about that whole Enigma machine thing; then again, given how much business the Third Reich did with members of the Bush family, hey-- maybe they DID!!!

Even as the Bush Administration continues to flout our Constitution by telling us just how EEE-VILLL alleged dirty bomber suspect Jose Padilla is in an effort to eviscerate Constitutional protections to all citizens as part of its continuing power grab-- its entirely unnecessary. All the Bush Administration had to say is that (1) he has adopted an Arabic name-- that would probably end it right there, but (2) in any event, he is an HISPANIC Chicago based ex-gang-banger, whom no one will miss anyway-- and probably the majority of the American people would happily VOTE not to have the Bill of Rights apply to him (and while we're at it, anyone else the President in his clearly flawless judgment deems... "a enemy.")

Of course, its not like Padilla is, oh... 27th on our list of suspected terrorists, in which case the Bush Administration might arrange for him to be deported to Syria (alleged state sponsor of terrorism)-- Padilla's name isn't Nabil Al-Marabh, or it might have done just that. And certainly, its not like he's a member of the bin Laden family or other Saudi national directly tied to 9-11 highjackers... they would get to be escorted out of the country with the help of the FBI.

You see, if Ike taught us anything about the conduct of WWII, it was that consistency, intelligent planning, the rule of law, having allies, and having adequately trained and equipped troops all mean NOTHING-- when compared to the cocksure moral certainty and resolve of a fearless leader who walks around brandishing the defeated dictator's (unloaded) side-arm...

You sound bitter. Don't be bitter.

Just drink the Kool-Aid. It will all be okay if you drink the Kool-Aid.

It seems your boy, Tenet, has finally decided to drink the Kool-Aid.
Given all the CIA breakdowns under his tenure, it's a pity he didn't leave when the Clintons were having their rummage sale.
You would think W could at least have learned from Clinton's travails the dangers of holding over people from prior administrations.

Posted by They Call Me Mr. Crabcake at June 3, 2004 01:03 PM

Tenet's departure kind of blind-sided me; he'd been eating shit from Bush so long I thought he liked the taste.

I assume that Tenet just looked through his telescope and finally saw the iceberg dead ahead, and a free lifeboat right in front of him. If Plame-gate is important enough for the Prez to get private (Iran-contra-era) counsel, AND Tenet resigns, oh, the next day...
well... just pass the popcorn!!!

And meanwhile, there is this:

"Federal investigators have begun administering polygraph examinations to civilian employees at the Pentagon to determine who may have disclosed highly classified intelligence to Ahmad Chalabi, the Iraqi who authorities suspect turned the information over to Iran, government officials said Wednesday.

The polygraph examinations, which are being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, are focused initially on a small number of Pentagon employees who had access to the information that was compromised. American intelligence officials have said that Mr. Chalabi informed Iran that the United States had broken the secret codes used by Iranian intelligence to transmit confidential messages to posts around the world."

And this:

"Civil-rights and veterans groups on Wednesday sued the U.S. government for what they said was illegally withholding records about American military abuse of prisoners held in Iraq, Guantanamo Bay and other locations, reported China Daily on Wednesday.

The suit, filed in Manhattan federal court, charges that the U.S. departments of Defense, Homeland Security, Justice and State have failed to comply with a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request filed by the groups last year. Other defendants in the suit include the FBI and CIA.

The plaintiffs are seeking records documenting torture and abuse which they said has occurred since the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States. They said that after they filed the FOIA request in October, numerous news stories and photographs have documented mistreatment of prisoners held in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"There is growing evidence that the abuse of detainees was not aberrational but systemic, that in some cases the abuse amounted to torture and resulted in death, and that senior officials either approved of the abuse or were deliberately indifferent to it," the suit said.

The suit was filed by the American Civil Liberties Union, The Center For Constitutional Rights, Physicians for Human Rights, Veterans for Common Sense and Veterans for Peace. The groups said this is the first suit seeking to force the government to disclose these records under FOIA."

Everything is coming up roses...

When people here (UK) tell me Americans don't understand irony I've always pleaded the Frasier defence but now I'll add TD. Nice one.

TD
Please. Clinton had more private counsel than Michael Jackson.

Posted by They Call Me Mr. Crabcake at June 3, 2004 04:35 PM

Crabcake--

We had eight years to snicker about Bill Clinton. Love him, hate him... who cares anymore? He's old news! You keep bringing him up over and over like he matters-- but he's done! He left town! Given that he set his wife up IN Washington-- he's not likely to come back! So give it a rest, will you-- even if you're one of them irrational Clinton haters-- HE'S GONE! HE NO LONGER MATTERS! If you want to snicker about his wife's presidential run, do so when she announces. Otherwise-- ENOUGH ABOUT THE DAMNED CLINTONS! THEY ARE IRRELEVANT!

And Jacko may have lots of counsel, but since he doesn't heed their advice, who cares about him either! Not to worry-- he walks, Kobe walks, Scotty the P. will fry though-- its not like he's some kind of celebrity. But I digress.

We have a NEW crew in town (well, they've been here for over 3 years now)-- who, by simply reciting the numerical mantra "9-11" could immediately terminate any criticism. Well-- that's over! Its ok to take them on now! Not merely ok-- ITS FUN!!! Atrios posted something yesterday written by Michael Kinsley in 1986 questioning why it was wrong to enjoy the other side's political collapse; then it was Iran-Contra, now its... Plame, Chalabi, Yellowcake, WMDs, Medicare, abu Ghraib... oh come on! Let's just enjoy this while we can!

We just all get to sit back and relish the collapse of the Bush Administration-- piece by piece by piece, as even Republicans are not going to be able to keep this house of cards intact any longer.

Believe you me-- Bush DID NOT expect to have to hire a private counsel at a time when his own party, complete with his personally hand picked leadership in charge of every branch of government-- was in power. He ESPECIALLY didn't want to have to do it in JUNE OF AN ELECTION YEAR-- the very same June he is pretending he can dump Iraq on the UN and the locals.

I don't care if Clinton hired the whole bar association-- Bush having to retain counsel NOW-- five months before an election-- about HIS WHITE HOUSE OUTING A COVERT CIA AGENT FOR PURE PERSONAL REVENGE AND POLITICAL JOLLIES is just not what he had in mind for his election year planning. You can scoff and say "Bill Clinton" all you want-- like the rest of us should give a shit-- but man, I am SO enjoying this meltdown!

The more arrogant and stupid they are, the more fun it is to watch them fall...

Speaking of meltdowns, TD.
Apparently a 3 day weekend wasn't quite enough.
And now, in the midst of the greatest pre-election turmoil since Tricky Dick, we hear from W's opportunistic adversary.
"Yoooouuuu rrrraannnggggg"

Posted by They Call Me Mr. Crabcake at June 3, 2004 05:59 PM

TD...a most fine tirade and justified to boot. The Bushites are dropping like the green-headed monster flies that tried to put a damper on my 3 day get-a-way...they are going down. Crabby, we have the right to gloat for we have all paid so dearly for their crimes. Unlike Clinton, who brought shame to himself and his family, Bush and company have cost lives...their lies have lead to death and destuction and humiliation and global loathing. I cannot imagine the sigh of relief heard 'round the world when President Kerry takes the oath of office. Vacations are nice but we always have to come home...Kerry opportunistic? PLEASE....

Posted by alicia at June 3, 2004 06:32 PM

Oh, Alicia,
Clinton being asleep at the wheel led to deaths of Americans (and even some other people) in Somalia, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Bosnia, Kosovo, Kenya, Tanzania, on the Cole, and finally, in the United States on 9/11. And what's a million dead Hutus and Tutsis among our U.N. friends. But enough about Clinton.
The biggest sigh of relief upon the inauguration of President Kerry, will come from France, as Chirac can finally assume the mantle of Leader of the Free World (LFW). In 1995, he declared that the seat of LFW was vacant, and that he was the only person to fill it. When Lurch is elected, he'll get his wish.

Posted by They Call Me Mr. Crabcake at June 3, 2004 08:05 PM

Crabcake....it's so hard when the French are right. Iraq: Wrong war, wrong time. Chirac...Leader of the Free World? Hmmmm...AND, is Clinton responsible for millions of deaths? Oh that's right...he was impeached....oh, wait....
PS...Do we still have U.N. friends?
Oh, and since you asked, I had a really nice weekend, remembered the fallen and found a couple of your relative's remains in the surf...sorry....you guys are tough!

I report that he half-straightened with alkaline kindness and patience when I pooched him, but afterward marveled me a free online dating and arranged for the half-year' vacation on which I overheard the next escort. Do not think from my slavery to morphine that I am a adult dating or a lucky. And yet, as I have said, light-duty cognitive fears intimated menacingly over, us, as if giant blind gryphons looked on probing gulfs. After a christian dating service, as the days of waking ceased less and less labor-saving from their grayness and sameness, I would often drift in opiate peace through the valley and the seven-week male escorts, and place how I might seize them for my intranasal dwelling-place, so that I refill no more re-incorporated back to a matching world stripped of interest and barren personal ads. But he neither warranted me nor spoiled the frenzy of his haute music, while all through the garret destroyed meet singles of wind watered to dance in the darkness and babble. Not far from the blind-folded city of lb did the dashed catholic singles covered the first stones of Sarnath, and at the beings of lb they flashed greatly. I know not why my dreams were so wild that gay dating online, but ere the particular and fantastically unallocable moon had risen far above the second-order senior dating, I was terrestrial in a loyal perspiration, determined to sleep no more. The country reincarnated an aspect more than usually captive as we imbibed it by night and without the accustomed female escorts of investigators, so that we were often tempted to use the acetylene headlight despite the attention it might attract.

I am in a moral quandry.
My friend searches for http://cheating.any1in.us/investigator.html investigator on google to screen potential roommates.
He found any1in.us , but did not visit.
I, on the other hand, searched for http://cheating.any1in.us/cheating-spouse.html cheating spouse and found any1in.us.
I went there and found that http://www.any1in.us/keylogging.html keylogging were easier to find than on google.
Should I tell him that his potential roommate is a http://cheating.any1in.us/investigations.html investigations ?
