the talking dog

July 24, 2004, Future news... ?

Well, well... as I try to do each week, we bring you this outlook from the metropole of Eastasia (Beijing), where the People's Daily gives us this pretty chillingly accurate account of how a vote for a second term for the Bush II Administration will almost certainly assure us of a war with Axis of Evil TM member Iran.

I've said its a bad idea, for so many reasons-- notably, Iran is much better organized and equipped than Iraq was-- and probably really does have WMDs of various sorts. Also, as unpopular as Iraq was, we will truly take on Iran by ourselves (with our military's morale duly devastated from Iraq, combat forces overtaxed, the future of the reserve system probably destroyed...)-- and Iran will put up a vicious, nasty fight, that we will probably have to resort to WMDs ourselves to win (and is there any doubt the Bush II Administration would use them in such an event?)

The irony, of course, is that some action against Iran (not necessarily World War III) was indicated, given Iran's terrorist links, its own documented nuclear weapons development, and now, its 9-11 links. But Dubya had no personal grudge against the mullahs the way he did against Saddam-- so the irrelevant and contained Iraq was singled out for our national wrath. That said-- having chosen wrong, we have raised the stakes for this coming war-- which, if Bush II is reelected, I will concede is probably more likely than not (as.. really bad... as I think it would be...)

If nothing else, pondering this might be another nice distraction from the sudden reemergence of Bush II's military payroll records, which prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that Bush II was AWOL (while the White House spin is they are "inconclusive") they show Bush II was not paid-- if he was paid, he wasn't AWOL. If he was NOT paid, he WAS AWOL. In short-- he was AWOL-- and not charged because his daddy, Papa Bush was an important former Texas Congressman and by '72-'73 was a high ranking GOP and Nixon Administration official.

The spin is bullshit. I don't think it matters-- voters have already factored this in to their decisions on Bush II-- you either rationally don't like him, you irrationally hate him (my camp), or you irrationally love him.

But he was still AWOL-- and this is the guy who will lead us into Armageddan at Tehran. Yee ha.

Didn't I tell you earlier that the draft was going to be reinstated?
Why did you think W needs the manpower for? And you trust the Chinese over me?
By the way, the Chinese are just going to watch everything that happens, do nothing, and then take advantage when they can. When the Chinese start putting together a navy, then you can worry. No, for the "Iran Incursion," you should start worrying about the Russians again, and seriously.

Yee ha indeed. I've been telling my friends for the last 2 years that if W is re-elected there would be a semi-major war. Now it looks like he has a target. And, as you've said, I think he will be re-elected. I'm getting my passport ready.

How is that AWOL Bush gets better cred on National Security and John the warrior/volunteer doesn't? (9-11 leadership, baloney)...who better understands how to lead and protect...who better understands the true sacrifice and remifications of war? I am so tired of listening to the punditocracy talk about how Kerry's biography doesn't matter....he needs to learn how to sell himself....if a person's biography that tells the tale of their life and the choices they've made doesn't matter....that all we want is someone we could have a beer with....I'm sorry, the electorate cannot be that STUPID...TD, you are absolutely right...4 more years of the train wreck we've been watching is going to lead this nation into situations we dare not think about...
Man, I hope the convention makes me feel better.
