This week's visit to Pravda gives us this fantasy piece suggesting a scenario for the impeachment of George W. Bush. Of course, even the Pravda piece itself notes GOP control of Congress, but keeps discussing the possibility of foreign policy related impeachment just because it would be good for both the United States and the rest of the world to remove Bush from office. Obviously, the writer seems high on something if he can conceive of the word "impeachment" making it out of a Congressman's mouth, let alone past a Tom de Lay controlled House committee. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds indeed.

But since we're going with a drug anthem/fantasy theme this morning, I'll link to Pandagon's second-hand treatment and commentary on the latest right wing meme: their own fantasy about right-wing Christian freedom fighters murdering Supreme Court justices and selected Democratic senators (those from states with Republican governors, of course), to ensure botha righteous High Court (i.e., one that will outlaw abortion, forgetting that Roe v. Wade doesn't allow the Feds to outlaw abortion directly, but merely prevents states from doing so-- details, details) and a filibuster proof senate to ensure the accession of said High Court. Monstrous? I'm just short of saying that the particular blogger , who, I'm really ashamed to say is a member of my own Dog Run, should be arrested for inciting violence. Since unlike him, I actually believe in our Constitution, I won't say that. I will say he should be damned ashamed of himself-- and his stated contrition just doesn't sway me. The thing that scares the crap out of me is that these fantasies seem more than that: to this day I remain (as should all loyal Americans who love our Constitution, anyway) suspicious of the circumstances of the deaths of Mel Carnahan and Paul Wellstone. But still-- the audaciousness of the fantasy-- the murders of dozens of people to defeat a God damned filibuster because four extremists have been blocked. But this is what "good Christian" right wingers are at least thinking in their fantasies (when they should be thinking about sex): mass murder.

Which, sadly, segues to the horrors of extremists acting out on their murder fantasies, this time in Istanbul, Turkey, where over 20 are dead in bombings of synagogues; at the moment, no group has claimed responsibility, though an internal Turkish Islamist extremist group is the likeliest culprit. Just as Islamist extremists seemed to be losing some "street creds" for killing Arabs in Riyadh, when in doubt, kill some Jews, I guess. This, boys and girls, is the reality, not the fantasy, of religious extremist driven murder (as was 9-11, for those who give a shit). But "Onward Christian Terrorists", I guess...

Finally, since this seems to be a fantasy/reality/drug induced God knows what pot pourri theme, in the equivalent of killing a flock of albatrosses, we give you this tale of horror as at least a dozen are dead in a gangway collapse before the launch of the Queen Mary II in France. The victims were relatives of shipyard workers putting finishing touches on the vessel before its maiden voyage later this year.

I've noted before that chance and hazard seem to be embedded in every fiber in the universe, and I've come to believe that God Himself is subject to chance and hazard as well. It's really the only satisfactory reconciliation of the existence of a Deity, goodness in the universe, free will, and evil. Well, boys and girls, we've touched on evil all over this post, I'm afraid. I think I'm going to be sick, now. Enjoy the rest of your weekends.
