At least ten are dead and fifty are wounded following a suicide bombing on a bus in Jerusalem. As the United States continues to lose personnel weekly and Iraqis massacre each other more or less daily, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, while not exactly quiet (Palestinians are still being killed in Gaza and the West Bank, and there have been attacks on Israelis at border areas), the conflict at least hadn't given us news of this nature (i.e. fatal attacks inside Israel proper) for some time.
Defense Minister Mofaz is convening the appropriate high level meetings to discuss Israel's response; stay tuned for retaliation, counter-retaliation, and possible escalation of violence all along.
It should come as no surprise to anyone that the removal of Saddam Hussein (and his $10,000 suicide bomber stipend checks) has not put a stop to this sort of thing. Israel knows what it has to do to ultimately bring this terrorism and violence to a stop, but it finds itself as much a prisoner of its own internal extremists (and its fractious electorate and electoral system) than it does of its extremely unhappy Palestinian houseguests.
Well, its 2004. Different year. Same horror. My God.
