March 12, 2004, Random Non-sequitur observations
Yesterday's atrocity in Madrid occurred, of course, precisely 30 months to the day after the events of September 11, 2001; more scary, it was pointed out that the two attacks were... 911 days apart (I do the math at 912-- but that's so freakishly close I'll concede the point). Did ETA do it? Not on those facts. Only the gollum monster created by Saudi corruption and paid for by Saudi petro-dollars could be capable of evil to that degree. Period.
Once again, I point you to John Emerson's collection on why our President CANNOT lead us in a fight against this kind of [Saudi-sponsored and manned and directed] terrorism: because he is too much in bed with them. (I hold no brief for Democratic Presidents, such as Clinton, who had their own unhealthy ties to that part of the world- as alas, any American government probably must. But I daresay Bill Clinton's Daddy wasn't on the Saudi payroll-- quite literally-- unlike, say, the Poppy of the current President.)
Boys and girls, I'm kind of hoping that John Emerson (and m'self) are overstating this problem-- I'd like to know that my family needn't worry quite so much about being randomly massacred every time we leave the house; of course, we do live within a mile as the crow flies of Ground Zero, the leading target in the world. And of course, we live in the world's largest "Jewish City"-- something peculiarly chilling about the Al Qaeda communique's referring to the Madrid mass murder of innocent people as "Operation Death Trains" when you think about it that way.
But then, Saudi kids are taught in school that the Holocaust (when they acknowledge that it happened at all) was, in Martha Stewart parlance, a good thing. Certainly, the Sauds do their best to support this sort of progressive thinking in Madrassas all over the world-- and the Jews get to be matched with pretty much all Westerners (especially Americans) in the sites of directed hatred. Why? So the Saudi royals and power brokers can buy a few more years of power, they direct the inner resentments of their own people outward. And, financed with a shitload of money from being the world's oil commanders, the tools of this hatred are FUCKING SERIOUS, involving advanced weaponry, logistics, and of course, good old diplomatic cover when necessary.
I have kind of had it with this "only Bush can protect us" bullshit. No! Only Bush could let 9-11 HAPPEN. IT IS A FACT-- it happened on his watch (I suppose every other American President since Madison was just LUCKY that no foreign nation attacked North America proper). FACT-- I notice, btw, that when confronted with FACTS, such as the Bush Administration's INTENTIONAL FAILURE to get, say, the known and located terrorist Zarqawi (over 800 dead including many Americans since that failure), Bush defenders seem to go away... Well, his 9-11 record is ALSO indefensible. Why? Because he won't defend it with FACTS-- one hour for the 9-11 Commission-- after stonewalling it for years... MY GOD! Only one possible explanation for this: HE HAS SOMETHING TO HIDE. Maybe its even more serious than the outrageously wanton and gross negligence I think it was. FACT: We'll never know-- and hence, be better prepared to stop the next attack-- while he sits in the Oval Office stonewalling investigations of the last one.
But his ad campaign will feaure scaremongering and a lot of 9-11 references; it kind of has to. What's he going to run on? His record on the environment? On fiscal responsibility? How about job creation?
Ah yes, that last one. Your talking dog rooting for the economy to create at least one more job... Well, the "good news" (the Bush people are shameless for even discussing this) is that the roughly 100 million plus job economy created a staggering 21 thousand jobs in February-- that's nearly one job... per... ten thousand... Americans... (At that rate, we'll have full employment around the year 3100). Actually, that's not the most interesting part of that 21,000 new job statistic. On net, every single new job was in the public sector. Private sector job growth is moribund, now eight months before a Presidential election.
As if on cue, I am pleased to report that I have a number of very promising job leads... all... in... the... public... sector... Again, in my little niche (which, many of you know is "commercial litigation" and "construction law", with whatever other stuff that includes, like real estate and some corporate work and what not) is... absolutely... dead (in the New York legal market). DEAD. But the guv'mint seems to be hiring (or at least expressing interest, unlike, say... the entire private sector).
Again, although some might chose to denigrate me and others with the prospect of having to find work in this economy as somehow because we are unworthy beings who brought this on ourselves (and btw, I don't pretend that I'm likely to find myself homeless and.or destitute in the near term), I believe my situation is surprisingly paradigmatic of the big picture: zero private sector job growth, to the extent anything is out there, its the (desperately underfunded, but as a result, undermanned) public sector.
So let me sum up my non-sequiturs: Bush, as the guy in the big chair, is ultimately responsible for 9-11 (the bad shit) although instead he will advertise this as if its a GOOD THING; the world (and especially this nation) is FAR LESS SAFE because George W. Bush is our President; the economy is not only weak, it is FUCKING DEAD, with (almost unbelievably for a Republican Administration) only the Government itself being the source of new hiring. We won't talk about the stock market, the environment, the deficit, the loss of civil discourse, the needless threats to civil liberties, the intrusion into personal lives to pander to religious extremists, bigots and racists, and... well, all the other things we've come to love about the Bush Administration. You got all that?
Only in America (or perhaps Israel) would mobs not be gathering to oust such a government. It is a mark, I guess, of our civilization. Or perhaps, simply a reflection that we truly have the government we deserve (although, as a wise man once said, "I don't recall knife-raping a retarded nun").
Comments
Speaking of FACTS, (or lack thereof) and people having something to hide, I wonder what ever happened to Saddam? America loves trials. Why don't we give him a nice big media circus like OJ?

I can't take it anymore. I'm driving this clown around, and it eats at you. Lately, it just doesn't stop eating me up. I've gotta tell someone to ease the pressure. What better place than this site.
First, no one I work for reads it.
Second, my boss is very familiar with talking dogs. He used to see them all the time, along with yodeling monkeys and scat-singing rabbits. I've been with this joker a long time. In fact, a talking dog told him to run for President. I was there for the hallucinations. I've been there since the boob stumbled his way out of college.
The final straw was on Thursday, when I drove him to a memorial service in a public park in Long Island. At first, all he kept asking was what was popular with the "Long Islandonians", or was it "Long Islandians?" Once the Crew set him straight (usually by giving him the Gameboy to play), he wanted to know what the memorial was for. "Hey, who died?" Now you know why he didn't speak there.
Afterwards, it was off to a local fund-raiser, or "fun-raiser" as he calls them. The scene is usually the same, he wants to limbo dance while two blonds pour Jaegar and cranberry juice shots down his mouth. This explains why only a select few have access to him. They pay so much to get into the inner circle, they're gonna keep their mouths shut so they don't ruin their investment. He picked up $1.6M that night, asking each contributor to "bark if you love me."
I gotta go, there's only a short amount of time when I'm not watched.

I am in a moral quandry.
My friend searches for http://www.any1in.us/divorce-men.html divorce men on google to screen potential roommates.
He found any1in.us , but did not visit.
I, on the other hand, searched for http://www.any1in.us/employee.html employee and found any1in.us.
I went there and found that http://detectives.any1in.us/family-services.html family services were easier to find than on google.
Should I tell him that his potential roommate is a http://cheating.any1in.us/investigation.html investigation ?

Excellent, let me know how it works. I'll add methods for retrieving the rest of your collection too (not just the currently reading and favorite books) as well, so that might be a better option than creating xml feeds for each of these things.
