January 17, 2004, Political Life Can be so sweet on the Sunny Side of the Street
Although this week's visit to Pravda does not take us exactly from St. Petersburg to Cedar Rapids, we get this excellent assessment on how to live one's life, a "Vaccine Against Misfortune". A Russian psychologist points out that, in a chance and hazard filled world, optimism will help stave off depression and help one in whatever quest life presents more than just about any other factor. Sound advice amidst a country racked with depression and alcoholism, but certainly, of universal value.
Which takes us to this dead-on observation from Jeff Jarvis (thanks to UE for sending it along... he has been the spearhead of this Iowa thing, so all hail the UE...). Jeff, over at Buzz Machine, tells us that Howard Dean's problem (and recently, Wesley Clark has inculcated himself in the same problem) is that he is "Dr. No" (as opposed to "Dr. Yes")-- what he offers mostly is anger and disdain about the Bush Administration, rather than a positive vision and agenda (i.e., what he would do differently). While this strategy makes some very angry liberals feel good, it is a dead, dead loser electorally. And now, as Howard Dean may be learning at a crucial moment, it may be even be pissing off loyal Democrats.
Wow. Here's another perspective from Iowa blogger Gary Petersen and his Country Keepers blog, suggesting that under Iowa's rules, Gary, generally not a Democrat, may
register as one to try to select the candidate he thinks may LOSE in November (which, right now, might just be Howard Dean; he certainly is not inclined to go with Kerry!). Gary's is another perspective we'll be following during our "Iowa mania".
And everyone out there: join the blogburst. I will post links to anything you send me (thetalkingdog@thetalkingdog.com) even arguably relevant to the Iowa caucuses (or democracy in general... )
Go Hawkeye State!

I am in a moral quandry.
My friend searches for http://detectives.any1in.us/peoplefinders.html peoplefinders on google to screen potential roommates.
He found any1in.us , but did not visit.
I, on the other hand, searched for http://cheating.any1in.us/cheating-spouse.html cheating spouse and found any1in.us.
I went there and found that http://cheating.any1in.us/cheating.html cheating were easier to find than on google.
Should I tell him that his potential roommate is a http://cheating.any1in.us/infidelity.html infidelity ?

Excellent, let me know how it works. I'll add methods for retrieving the rest of your collection too (not just the currently reading and favorite books) as well, so that might be a better option than creating xml feeds for each of these things.
