the talking dog

January 27, 2004, NHP -- On and on (4:00 PM EST)

Kathleen of Unsettled, however, tells us that at least some people are feeling the enthusiasm: out o'staters.

From Dover's Foster's Daily Democrat, we get this selection of polls, all of which have the same basic "CW" order: Kerry, Dean, Clark, Edwards, Lieberman, though with differing percentages. And maybe that's how it will come out. I haven't yet seen "early exit polls" (which big media won't be using till close to poll closin' time)... but I just think that order won't hold.

You'll notice that my saturation coverage of New Hampshire is a little less... saturated than was the coverage of Iowa. There just seems to be a little less enthusiasm about this; I don't know why that is... Maybe its just that I'm less enthused...

Let me say this: my personal choice (made viscerally, by the way-- I could probably talk myself out of it, given enough time!) is Senator Edwards, who is, of course, not going to win New Hampshire. So, in that sense, I have less rooting interest here. My second favorite choice is Governor Dean (this choice is not at all visceral: Dean stood against the Iraq war, and, as governor of a state, was a social liberal/moderate and fiscal tightwad). Then, after these two... I start to lose interest, to be honest. Wesley Clark just hasn't caught on, and the line that "the Democratic Party needs a general to run against Bush" does not speak well of those who think that; if Bush is truly unbeatable, then let's cross-endorse him and worry about elections we can win. John Kerry has a long record of public service, and is much more of a moderate than a liberal, he is a decorated war hero, and... I don't why, but I don't like him. I do know why, and many of you can figure it out, but while the primary is pending, anyway, I'll shut up (also-- he may well go a long way toward winning the nomination with a big win today). And Joe Lieberman just doesn't generate excitement in anyone. A decent man; he would have served ably as Vice-President, but... just... not... exciting...

Iowa was a freaking barnburner. It had been Dean by a mile forever-- and then out of nowhere, he fell to second in the polls... and then third... and even fourth! And then that stupid video, over and over and over... Well, one could see why New Hampshire might be anteclimactic.

Well, I hope this gets exciting. The people of New Hampshire seem to enjoy confounding the experts; let's see if they do it again!!!

Well, if your previous %73 turnout figures are even close to correct, that would speak to an unusually high level of interest.

Excellent, let me know how it works. I'll add methods for retrieving the rest of your collection too (not just the currently reading and favorite books) as well, so that might be a better option than creating xml feeds for each of these things.
