Lieutenant Julian Goodrum. Remember that name. A series of three UPI articles document the Iraq war soldier being effectively denied medical treatment in apparent retaliation for his speaking out to the press about squalid medical conditions for soldierss (via Truthout.Org) and in turn, via Granny Rant who is just on a roll lately (I may go after her current favorite story-- chem trails in the skies over Tennessee... conveniently located within 50 miles of Oak Ridge National Laboratory... but I digress).

Back to Lt. Goodrum, who, at this point, has suffered various untreated symptoms arising from his Gulf War II service; these untreated symptoms ultimately seem to have resulted in his confinement to a mental ward at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (and of course, the suicide attempts that got him there).

This is kind of what we had figured was happening: while the President is delighted to use our soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines and guardsmen as convenient props for his political purposes, he is also extremely willing to use them as cannon fodder, not nearly as well equipped (with such things as body armor, or vehicle armor) as the Halliburton and Bechtel employees they are often providing security for.

And now, of course, we see another area: the case of medical treatment, which, if Lt. Goodrum is to be believed, is often abysmal for military personnel. Oh, and did we mention how charming the Rumsfeld Administration has been... recall how any generals (and I suppose admirals, colonels and other high ranking officers) were "retired" when they opposed Secretarissimo Rumsfeld's
restructuring or war plans... well, it would be a surprise if the military DID NOT retaliate against soldiers with the cojones to pretend this was some kind of a free country...

This is just another fucking outrage going on in this regime. We won't even talk about what we are doing to the people under our occupation (unless we want to get really upset, I suppose)...

I join in the call for any and all investigations necessary to the bottom of this Lt. Goodrum story, and if it is true-- I want to see some people going to jail for it; if decisions like this originate all the way to the top, then that may well mean generals... and defense secretaries.

Anyway, I am mumbling about the article re Lt. Julian Goodrum.

The military's position on treating veterans does not surprise me one whit.

I have read many articles ranging from the shameful practice of charging soldiers $8+ per day for the food consumed while at Walter Reed ... (a practice since changed after it was revealed to the public), denying them life saving body armor (one of my co-workers is trying to by $4,000 worth of armor for her husband and son who have recently been called up.), supplying rolling equipment for soldiers which is not armored (I saw film of the soldiers in Iraq working on their vehicles ... welding steel plating themselve in an attempt to stay alive .. they looked like refugees from a Monster-Bash car rodeo), and of course, I have read disturbing reports of the unusually high number of suicide attempts by U.S. soldiers in Iraq.

I would like to jump onboard in the call for complete investigations regarding the treatment of our troops ... and not just for medical treatment ... also why Halliburton or KBR or which ever one of those favored contractors were serving our troops in filthy conditions.

As to Granny's recent obsession with the Chemtrails ... I am pretty sure most would be wondering if planes were constantly flying overhead, laying down whatever it is they are "scattering" in the atmosphere. I suppose all the Knox-folks have simply failed to look up with any regularity.

How do I know it is going on in Knoxville as well as here ... UT Hospital is there and I have two aging parents who have appointments and frequent stays in that fine institution. Look Up, guys. (Note: There have been actual, real clouds in the sky yesterday and today instead of those thin strips of clouds that melt together then pull apart with the first wind. Watch for the X's.

I hate to break this to you, Dog, but the military's spotty treatment of veterans goes back well before the current administration. The generals do mean well, I think, but when push comes to shove and they're working with limited budgets, it somehow always seems that health care is one of those things that is placed towards the back of the line because it's not as urgent. As I said, I don't believe it's because anyone doesn't care, it's just that other priorities somehow always manage to get to the front of the line first. In any case, while the current administration deserves a share of the blame, it has been no worse on these matters than any previous administration of which I am aware.
