July 14, 2004, Trump Would Dump Chimp

I have no idea why I'm commenting on this, but famed real estate developer /gambling tycoon and recent broadcast darling Donald "the Donald" Trump has said that based on the Iraq invasion alone, he would tell President George W. Bush, "You're fired!"

Citing Iraq alone as a vicious mess which will result in civil war minutes after American forces leave (ah-- but there's the rub Donald, American forces won't be leaving for decades, if ever...), the place will erupt in civil war, and an authoritarian strongman will take over, who, unlike Saddam, will doubtless have WMDs. Feels the Donald, who always has a grasp of the obvious, the war, fought for reasons all of which have no been proven erroneous, took our attention and focus off of catching bin Laden, which is why he is still at large.

The Donald, as you will recall, toyed with running for President on the Reform Party line in 2000. Alas, the Donald is overqualified-- while he has a history as a failed businessman bailed out by his Dad, his fortunes reversed and he is now once again on top with a remarkably successful career as huckster, promoter, frontman and media star. For those who don't know, these days the Donald no longer so much develops projects himself as he once did, but more usually lends his name and promotional skills to other's projects-- a far more lucrative arrangement than when he developed things himself .

By contrast George W. Bush has never succeeded at anything, except taking advantage of Daddy's friends.

Let me get all "serious" for a second, and note something Mickey Kaus suggested, based in turn on a suggestion of Peggy "Nooners" Noonan. Nooners suggests that the vast reservoir of Bush hatred (not so much being stoked by Michael Moore's new movie as having light shone on it) should best be channeled with a "positive" reason for dumping Bush. Her spin-- which I will stipulate is o.k.-- is that the Bush Junior Administration has been "historic" (in my view, ridiculously so)--
9-11, Afghanistan, Iraq, "war on terror TM", giant (insane) tax cuts-- and maybe a nice, staid guy--hell, a waffler like John Kerry is what the country needs to calm down right now-- take a break from the Bush dynasty, for Gawd sake. In other words, thank the President for having done what he thought best to lead us through these historical times, but recognize that we now wish to go at a slower pace-- and we want to elect someone who, for four or maybe eight years, can just led us lead our lives-- someone who can bring the "interesting times" down to a crawl ( maybe go back to that beloved governmental gridlock we enjoyed during the Clinton era).

I'll bite. If it gets us regime change, I will happily "accentuate the positives" of Dear Leader (such as they are). I realize that Nooners is trying to lay the trap of "so you admit that George W. Bush is a historical figure that God Himself has chosen to lead us"... but the people who believe that are already in the "support Bush if he knife-rapes a nun on live t.v." camp. With some resonance among the few remaining independent and undecided voters, this logic may well get us all to say, in unison as a nation, "Mr. President, thank you for your service. We know you did the best you thought you could do in these trying and historic times. But the organization needs to make some changes. You're fired."

That's swell. I'd prefer seeing him dragged out into the street and publically humiliated in some way that involved dogs and Bush in a fire hydrant costume, but if what you suggest gets him out of office, I can live with it.

Anyone else find Cokie Roberts' suggestion on Chris Matthews that "Michael Moore will cost the Democrats votes" a little bizzare. My first thought was "they pay people for commentary like this?"

"Biochips in your future."

As part of the ongoing security efforts for the Republican Convention in New York, all delegates and attendees will have biochips embedded in their right hands for identification.
If this works, several billion dollars have already been earmarked by Congress to pay for the use of these chips by public employees, and then ultimately you and me. My source could not confirm whether the chips will contain a tracking device.

"You've done enough for one man, George. The people at Mt. Rushmore are measuring a spot for you, right next to Reagan."

Nice site Ever wonder how cigarettes are made? These are then cut to proper length for cigarettes. Filter-tipped brands have a double-length filter inserted between every two cigarettes; filters are sealed to the rods and then cut in half to produce two cigarettes, each one having a filter on one end.
