Diamond Anniversaries not referring to baseball diamond

That’s right: just 75 years ago today (and not very far from where I work…) was “Black Tuesday”– the Wall Street stock market crash of 1929.
While no particular market panic is scheduled for today, next week is… a whole other week!!!
I’m reopening the “electoral vote/popular vote” guess contest; closest guess gets lunch care of moi at New York’s Bouley restaurant… Take your best shots!

    I repeat:
    Bush 293, Kerry 245.
    Bush 55, Kerry 43, Nader 2.
    Guaranteed.

I think the Raving Atheist is in for a surprise soon. And I’m not talking about the election results.

Certainly no rule against it, Mrs. TD…
Just take your best shot… electoral vote count is the game; popular vote will be used as a tiebreaker.

If I win, I’ll spring for Mrs. TD and Cap’n Steve. Not that I’m trying to unduly influence you or anything, TD.
New, revised estimate: Kerry 300, Bush 238.
Popular vote: Kerry 50, Bush 48, Nader 1.

    Bush, 310-228
    Bush, 53-46%
Is the prize assignable? I don’t plan on being in NY anytime soon.

    Lawrence–
If your prediction proves to be the closest, we will work something out; not that I’m in Chicago very often (last time: 1987), but we’ll work something out.
Everybody, I’ll declare guessing closed as of midnight tonight (I believe there is a town in either New Hampshire or Maine where everyone votes at exactly 12:01 a.m., so, kind of like the NCAA betting pools that close at one second after the first tip-off, we’ll just have to do the same here.)
I’ll say this: while the Raving Atheist’s guess as to the popular vote is well outside the margins of error of even outlying polls– its the electoral vote that matters, and RA’s prediction is well within what I’ll call “the Florida margin” of a 50 e.v. swing (in fact, its exactly that, as Kerry would have 270 to Bush’s 268).
That said, keep those guesses coming, and bon appetit!!!
